The key to building muscle is making sure you can move the muscle to it’s fullest abilities (or at least the best that you can currently do). Making sure you contract the desired muscle or muscles you want to change is key in the progressive development of the muscle and myelin pathways.
So what is this myelin pathway and why is it so important in resistance training?
The Myelin sheath is the “tissue” that insulates the nervous systems signals to the skeletal muscle. The myelin helps to send the signals faster and faster because of repetition over time. This is a key development as what ever movement you practice in exercise the myelin pathways will then create “roads” to that muscle contraction. Above all this is the importance of continual improvement in muscle awareness as the saying “practice good form”.
To gain a basic awareness of this phenomena of myelin development for someone who has not had a athletic or sport background typically takes roughly one year with ideal instruction. A wonderful aspect of Myelin development is that once the pathways are developed the myelin signals stay developed as long as no degenerative diseases effect it like multiple sclerosis. Hence the importance of developing the Myelin Muscle Matrix correctly at the beginning of strength training.
Have you noticed after doing a repetitive task in life that you got faster and more effective in your movements?
